WALLONIA - BELGIUM
July 16, 2016
Our day began with a journey into the heart of the Belgian countryside,
with a visit to the Farm of the Valley,
home to the “Petits gris and Gros Gris” Escargot (snail) breeding
activities.
Here, 60,000 snails are reared in this farm, according to strict standards
that guarantee its unimpaired quality.
Following the presentation, we were given several samplings of their product
accompanied by wine and or beer.
.
Next, we went to visit the Abbey
of Maredsous,
one of the most beautiful abbeys in Belgium, founded in 1872 by the
Benedictine order in a Neo-Gothic style.
Afterwards, we enjoyed a snack including homemade bread, cheese, ham
and beer made from a secret Benedictine recipe.
Then, right outside the Abbey we visited a very typical and interesting local
market.
After a drive through the city of Mamur, our tour of Wallonia finished with
a visit to a local winery.
We sampled various vintages, as well as the production facilities that
created them.
